5th Grade Math - Decimal Multiplication with Area Models

This post explains and gives practice opportunities related to TEKS 5.3D:

represent multiplication of decimals with products to the hundredths using objects and pictorial models, including area models
 

Instruction

Though students learn to multiply decimals without representations in fifth grade, understanding area models helps them visualize why multiplying by a decimal can result in a product smaller than the factors.

 

STAAR Practice
